Medical Marijuana Dispensary

The fight for marijuana just made progress. Now that Colorado and Washington legalized marijuana, the stage is set for more medical marijuana dispensaries around the country.

The decision to legalize marijuana may seem controversial, but marijuana has been used for centuries. The medicinal benefits of marijuana were first discovered by the Chinese. The earliest written record of marijuana was made by Emperor Fu Hsi in 2900 B.C. He stated that Ma, the Chinese word for Cannabis, possessed both yin and yang. The Chinese consumed medicinal marijuana for centuries though no one knows whether or dispensaries existed in ancient China. From there, it spread to India, where it was used as a cure for leprosy. It wasn't until about 200 B.C. that marijuana turned up in the West, first appearing in Greece.

Two thousand years would go by before cannabis came to America. Famously, George Washington harvested hemp and according to his agricultural ledgers, he was particularly interested in marijuana's medicinal uses.

The reefer madness era changed the way that marijuana was viewed. Controversy soon followed and politicians acted with force. The drug war, initiated by President Nixon, casted a wide net demonizing every drug, effectively ending medical marijuana in the USA. It wasn't until the following decades that states slowly allowed medicinal marijuana. These days, medical dispensaries can be found all over California. Also, these days there are non-medical marijuana dispensaries throughout Denver.
