I've never known much about cars. I knew putting keys in the ignition would start the engine. But that's about as far as my knowledge of automobiles went. Apparently there are many other aspects to car care. My transmission education started last year. It was a warm morning. Because I was late to work I decided to speed up. As I accelerated past the burrito place, I shifted into third gear. I felt a quick stall and angry grumble emanating from the engine. Well, that's disconcerting, I said aloud to myself. And the same thing continued. Great, I whispered to to no one. Luckily Tom, an automobile enthusiast. was already there. Right off the bat he knew what the problem was. He informed me all about transmissions, even though I didn't need to hear half of it. He told me the problem was most likely old transmission fluid. Transmission fluid wears out, apparently, and when it does it's less effective. I might need a transmission flush. To make sure he was right he sent me to a good repair shop down the street. After work I headed over there. When I arrived the mechanics were quick to help me and were very nice. First, they performed a free diagnostic test. Even before the results came back they already knew what the problem would be. And my co-worker was right. After the mechanics flushed my transmission I was back on the road, my car running better than ever.
